Alter Egos

Alter Egos grew from a fascination with insect architecture like wasp nests, spider egg sacs and galls. The vessel-like nature of these natural objects, and their discernible content of vulnerable living beings, convey a strong sense of either sheltered protection or distressing confinement. Channelled through my own life world, these aspects have been translated into biomorphic ceramic sculptures. The blushings and flashings on their surfaces, the result of a soda saggar firing process, give the sculptures a sense of history that is symbolic of a lifetime. The marks left by the combustible materials represent scars from past experience.
